About Regions

Students may attend the local school that has been designated for the geographic area where they live. A number of special programs are often available at the local school. In addition, students may choose to participate in a regional or countywide program. Application and admission processes vary by program. Please carefully review the process for each program.

Local School Only

Available only to students assigned to the local school

Consortia

MCPS has one middle school and two high school Consortia programs that allow students to apply to participating schools through a choice process. At the high school level, students living in either the Downcounty Consortium (DCC) region or the Northeast Consortium (NEC) region may apply for a school in their region. The Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) accepts choice applications from students throughout the entire county. Students who live within the MSMC boundary area are guaranteed a seat at one of the three magnet middle schools.

Regional

Available by application to students in a particular geographic region of the county.

Contact individual schools for details.

Countywide
